The Art of Traveling: Inspiration on the Go

Traveling has become one of my greatest passions. I love exploring new places, immersing myself in local cultures, and savoring delicious, authentic cuisine. Beyond the thrill of adventure, travel is a wellspring of inspiration for my artwork.

One of my favorite activities while traveling is going for long walks and truly being present in my surroundings. I delight in discovering the local flora and fauna, capturing the essence of each place through photography. Occasionally, I forage when striking botanicals catch my eye, sparking inspiration and igniting my creative spirit.

Whenever time allows during my travels, I create cyanotype prints. I always pack coated cyanotype papers in my journal, protecting them from light exposure. Recently, I accompanied my husband to a work event, and we stayed at a lovely hotel. Our time there was blissful; I enjoyed stretching my legs and strolling down the strip, eating some delicious pastries, and discovering beautiful three-cornered leeks along the way.

As soon as I returned to our hotel room, I reached for a magazine book and pressed the flowers, eager to preserve their beauty. The following morning, after brewing a cup of espresso, I indulged in my printing process. Our balcony, bathed in sunlight, was the perfect spot to expose my prints. Once the exposure was complete, I carefully slid the finished prints back into my journal before heading to the breakfast buffet, where I enjoyed a delightful Italian breakfast.

When we returned home from our weekend staycation, I developed the prints and reflected on how there's always time and space to create art while traveling. I cherish this practice because it allows me to bring a piece of each destination back home—an artistic souvenir that embodies the spirit of each place we visit.
